WHAYNETECH SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The WhayneTech scholarship is an award provided by Whayne Supply and administered by KCTCS.  Selected high school senior(s), graduates or post-secondary students can receive scholarship awards to pursue a post-secondary diploma in diesel engine and/or heavy equipment technology at selected KCTCS programs.

Types of Award:

Two Year Award:         Diesel Engine and/or Heavy Equipment Technology
tuition and books up to $1,500 per year*

This scholarship also offers the recipient paid summer internships** and cooperative work experience at identified Whayne Supply facilities during the term of the program.  The ultimate goal is full-time employment upon completion of the program if business conditions support the addition of personnel.

The award is based on academic achievement, character excellence and career potential.  The application is to be submitted by April 1, 2009.  The award announcement will be made by the end of May.

*maintaining  scholarship from 1st to 2nd year will be made upon completion of the 1st year of scholarship and sommer work intern activities.  KCTCS scholastic achievement & intern work performance will be determining factors.

KCTCS - “Louis A. Neichter - WhayneTech Scholarship”

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The following guidelines are strongly focused on during selection but they are flexible.  Guidance Counselors who encounter possible applicants with strong career potential, but are outside of some guideline(s) may submit an application.  Upon submission of such an application the counselor must provide a reference letter as to why the applicant should be considered.  However, in all cases the final decision as to application review, testing, interview and award will be made by the selection and award committee.

The applicant for the WhayneTech scholarship must fulfill the following guidelines:

1.   Academic Achievement:  A 2.5 cumulative GPA calculated from the tenth, eleventh and first half of grade twelve. 

2.   Attendance:  A 90% attendance average for the tenth, eleventh and first half of grade twelve.

3.   Character Excellence: Provide at least four (4) character reference letters from     individuals (no student references) relating to the applicant:  two must be from teachers and two from non-school personnel (ministers, business associates).

4.   Career Potential: submit a minimum of one page typed, double spaced statement     including the applicant’s occupational objectives and interests in the diesel/heavy equipment      field.  Student should also include community and high school activities, work activities and other information deemed appropriate.

The candidate must be willing to attend a selected KCTCS program and complete work experience* at a Whayne Supply location, unless alternate methods are agreed on due to unusual circumstances.

The candidate must be an applicant as a full-time student in diesel engine and/or heavy equipment technology program at the selected KCTCS facility. Applicable KCTCS entrance testing must be taken, acceptable scores received and any necessary KCTCS application fees paid prior to submission of scholarship application and packet.

Pre-employment testing**  by Whayne Supply Co. must be taken and acceptable scores achieved to qualify for scholarship assistance.

The scholarship remains in effect so long as the student maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA, makes satisfactory progress in class, work activities and is not subject to any disciplinary action.

Summer work internships at a Whayne Supply Co. will be available pending favorable business conditions

** Scholarship candidates must achieve acceptable scores on standardized pre-employment tests that are required of all Whayne Supply Co. shop & field service employment applicants.

APPLICATION PROCESS

KCTCS  -  Louis A. Neichter - WhayneTech Scholarship

(for Diesel / Heavy Equipment Technician Training Programs at KCTCS Facilities)

 (High School Seniors)

A.  The student is to complete the scholarship application and compile a packet of material and submit it to their school counselor

 B.  School counselor must certify the accuracy of the information.  The high school counselor must then submit the application and evidence packet to appropriate KCTCS Counselor. A copy may be sent to:

 Ray Genet, Supervisor of Technical Training, Whayne Supply Co., P.O. Box 35900, Louisville, KY  40232-5900.

(Strongly Recommend that the applicant keep a copy of all completed application documentation for their personal reference)

C.  The student must be available for Whayne testing.

D.  The student must be available for selection committee interviews.

E.  Scholarship awards will be announced by a local KCTCS Representative and/or a Whayne Supply representative(s).

A break in enrollment or unsatisfactory progress in the program will terminate the scholarship except for extenuating circumstances.  (Example:  illness)

Post high school graduates will provide the completed application to the KCTCS counselor.
