Frank Coble in his office, the cat of a Cat 930H. |
If you want to know how good a piece of equipment performs, you talk to the operator. For the past 42 years at Goodman & Sons Lumber that guy has been 75-year old Frank Coble. Frank is quick to tell you lots of stories about "the good old days" with founder C.B. Goodman, and how he’s been operating CAT loaders in the yard since 1966. And over the years Frank has driven a lot of wheel loaders, but this new CAT 930H is special.
"There’s nothing I can’t do with it" smiles Frank. "I can take it anywhere, pick anything up, it turns on a dime and the all around visibility is great," he said.
Frank likes the 930H’s comfort features, too.
"I live in that loader. It’s comfortable to operate, the controls are in just the right place – it’s just a smooth running machine."
There’s a lot to like about the 930H loader. It features a C6.6 engine with ACERT Technology for responsive power and low emissions. It also has VersaLink loader linkage, combining Integrated Toolcarrier versatility and parallel lift with superior speed and force. The unit features standard third function hydraulics for operation of hydromechanical tools. The operator station is engineered for easy access and egress with efficient operation over an entire shift. And, there’s power to spare with a net engine power of 149 hp.
For Frank this loader is special in another way. It’s ‘his’ loader, and a decal on the side of the unit proudly proclaims "Made Especially For Frank Coble. Operating CAT Loaders Since 1966."
And what’s Frank’s final word on the CAT 930H? "It’s as handy as a pocket on a shirt."
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
