Whayne hosted a series of paving seminars for our customers across Kentucky early this Spring. The two-day course featured both classroom and in-the-iron training.

controls. The in-the-iron part of the program covered the TopCon sonic depth control system maintenance and operation, physically adjusting the screed controls and actual machine operation.
The students set up and operated the paver, a CAT AP-1000B, and put down a layer of sand. We use sand in the pavers for several reasons including economics and practicality, explained Scott Murphy, Whayne Sales Paving Specialist. At the end of the day we can just scoop it up and use it for something else. But more importantly if an operator can get good at paving with sand they will be even better with asphalt. Sand shows every imperfection and is not very forgiving.
